Magenta Pay teaches you everything you need to protect yourself against online scams š³
Amidst the rise of online fraud attempts targeting personal data, such as passwords and credit or debit card details, Magenta Pay is dedicated to keeping you safe while making transactions through digital channels. Follow the security tips below to stay protected.
How to treat suspicious text messages (SMS).
Never open links you received by text message, even if the text message appears to have been sent by a person or company you recognize!
Suspicious text messages appear as though they have been sent by reliable sources, such as public agencies, banks, telecommunication, energy and transport companies. If you open a malicious link, you may go to a website or form that asks you to fill in personal information and card details in order to pay e.g. an account or a fine, unlock your account or card, collect a package, etc. The information you enter will then be used by the criminals to misappropriate your money.
How to identify websites of suspicious online merchants.
1. Carefully observe all websites where you plan to use your digital Magenta Pay card for transactions. The padlock š on the Internet browser address bar indicates that the website is encrypted, which means that the actions you take cannot be intercepted. In addition to searching for the padlock symbol, you must always stay vigilant, as criminals are able to forge or purchase these symbols. Are there spelling or grammatical errors? Is the website designed poorly? Is there a good policy for returning products and money, is it in accordance with your needs, etc.? If anything seems unusual, this is a warning sign that you may be on an unreliable website. Avoid completing your transaction if in any doubt. Remember, is the offer too good to be true?
2. Ignore prompts to unblock or freeze your account.
3. Ignore prompts to reschedule a lost delivery/dispatch.
